Department of Energy (DoE)
Transportation Tracking and Communication (TRANSCOM)
Challenge
DoE requires tracking of the nation’s defense-related (TRU) waste shipments and other radioactive material shipments to meet DoE mission requirements. The DoE Transportation and Tracking Communications System (TRANSCOM) requires technical support services that result in 24/7/365 system availability to nationwide users and 99.8% system uptime.
Solution
Utilizing Agile and Waterfall software development methodologies, Aleut increased stakeholder engagement, transparency in delivery, rapid deployment of system features and capabilities, and improved security and quality control. Aleut’s Human-Centered Design focus drove necessary customer and operational support tools, such as a help desk ticketing system and shipment checklist system to streamline support workflows, and automated creation of Nuclear Shipment Checklists designed to meet the needs of the DoE and DoE stakeholders.
Results
Aleut successfully tracked over 2,500 transuranic and radioactive material shipments for the DoE client without incident. Enhanced system architecture and network environments resulted in new capabilities within the DoE/CBFO TRANSCOM System with no discernible cost variance to the firm fixed price contract and provided innovative and effective solutions around Contingency Readiness. This work has resulted in Exceptional CPARS throughout the contract’s option years.

ASMS specializes in space-related capabilities for the Department of Defense including satellite communications, space ground system operations and maintenance, cyber, information technology, data enterprise operations, and more. ASMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aleut Federal, LLC, a holding company for The Aleut Corporation (TAC).
